Meet the Staff is a monthly feature here on the Homewords blog. This month, meet Danielle Fegel, Families Moving Forward Program Center Coordinator.
Danielle, how long have you worked at Beacon?
Two and a half years – I started as an intern at the Families Moving Forward Program Center and I’m now the coordinator there.
Describe your job.
I help families in whatever way I can to get their day started or to get through the day, whether it’s helping them pick out what to wear to an interview, helping to get kids off to school or just lending a listening ear.
Why do you like working here?
I like seeing the families’ happiness when they have succeeded in reaching their goals of employment and housing.
What’s one thing you are most proud of about your work?
That I, along with other staff and volunteers, have played a small role in all the families’ successes.
What is your favorite pastime?
I love spending as much time as possible with my 2-year-old baby brother.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I can relate first hand to some of the struggles our families face. I was on my own from the age of 15. Because of this, I made quite a few bad choices in my life, and continued to make bad choices well into adulthood. But then in 2010 I decided that I needed to make some drastic changes in my life and did so with the help of others. So when I got my internship here at FMF, it was a perfect fit, because I am now able to help and show the same compassion to the families here that other people had shown me.
