Meet the Staff is a monthly feature. This month, meet Director of Advancement Laura Vitelli. (Photo: Laura, far left, with guests at The Journey Home.)
How long have you worked at Beacon (or any of its previous incarnations)?
I’ve been with Beacon three years.
Describe your job - not necessarily your official job description but what you really do every day.
I work with the best team of fund development and communications professionals around. They do an incredible job of inviting people into our work to end homelessness and engaging them in impactful ways. I’m fortunate to get to do a variety of things—for example, in the same week I might have inspiring conversations with key donors; spend a few hours poring over spreadsheets trying to forecast contributions; talk with community leaders who will tell the story of homelessness; and mine data to discover how many donors we have who have been giving to Beacon for more than 10 years (it’s 127, by the way); and meet with the team to plan our next campaign.
Why do you like working here?
There’s a lot to like about working at Beacon. Mostly, I appreciate the people. Our staff and volunteers are smart, hard-working, collaborative, fun, and focused on a single big goal: ending homelessness.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
In my free time, I enjoy paper crafts, especially card-making and scrapbooking. I like to lose myself in the colors, textures and patterns of paper and smudge my fingers with ink.
