Meet the Staff is a monthly feature. This month, get to know Marlys Weyandt, Beacon's fund development coordinator.
How long have you worked at Beacon?
Two years in February 2014.
Describe your job - not necessarily your official job description but what you really do every day.
I work with donors to involve them in our work and show them how their support makes a difference. Can I say that one of my colleagues calls me “the lapsed donor whisperer?” Also, I coordinate tours of our housing and program sites where donors (or anyone interested in our work) can come and learn how we are working towards ending homelessness.
Why do you like working here?
I love working for Beacon because we have great staff J and a wonderful mission that I fully support. I also really enjoy all the people I get to meet through tours and working with donors.
What’s one thing you are most proud of about your work?
I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to involve our donors and volunteers in sharing our work with others.
What kind of job would you have if you weren’t so busy helping to end homelessness?
Not sure, my childhood dream was to be a ballerina.
What is your favorite book, movie, comedian, play, sport, pastime?
I have lots of favorite books and movies, which take up a great deal of my leisure time. I also really enjoy cooking, which is another favorite pastime.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
For better or worse, I feel like I’m kind of an open book. There’s probably not much.
