SUMMARY:Rent is Due: Day of Action - 3/1/22
DESCRIPTION:Our vision is that all people have a home. The pandemic and economic crisis have been building into an eviction crisis\, which could add to the already too large number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness. We cannot let this happen\, and home is the solution. \nWe need Bring it Home\, Minnesota\, a rent support program that will allow all low-income Minnesotans the security and reassurance of home. \nOn Tuesday\, March 1\, join us on Zoom at 8:30 a.m. for a thirty-minute update meeting\, where we will learn more about the growing crisis\, and reflect on how to take action together. This meeting will have Closed Captions available. \nPlease register below to let us know you will participate and to receive further instructions on how to access the meeting.

SUMMARY:Joyful Urgency: A Beacon Convening
DESCRIPTION:Click here for our Public Agenda – Joyful Urgency Convening December 2021 \nThe Beacon collaborative has shown tremendous power and resilience over the last year\, working hard to shelter families\, create homes and advocate for our vision that all people have a home. We have continued to lead the growing Bring it Home\, MN campaign. We have stepped boldly into new policy campaigns locally\, pushing the Met Council and City of Minneapolis to live into their commitment to creating homes for those at the lowest incomes.  And most of this work has been done all virtually over Zoom!    \nIt is time to come together to celebrate this great work and move forward in joyful urgency! You are invited to our first Beacon Congregational Convening since the start of the pandemic.  If you have not attended a convening before\, join us to ground ourselves in our vision and collective story and learn the transformational power of the work we are planning this next year. All congregations are invited in whatever way they have participated in Beacon. We especially welcome you if you just learned about Beacon through a congregational in-reach. This event will be a great introduction to Beacon for those new to our work and nourishment for the journey for everyone working for the vision that all people have a home.   \nDo not miss this convening on Thursday\, December 9th. Save the date.       \nThis is a hybrid event\, and everyone has the option of joining us either in person or virtually via Zoom (the link will be shared with you upon registering). \nOur in-person venue will be:\nSt. Stephen Lutheran Church\n8400 France Ave S\, Bloomington\, MN 55431 \nMasks are required for anyone attending in person\, and we will provide extras at the door if you don’t have one. Accessible parking\, seating\, and bathrooms are available on site\, and St. Stephen Lutheran Church welcomes all regardless of gender\, sexual identity\, religious preference\, or ethnic heritage. Closed Captioning will be available on Zoom. For more information on our safety and accessibility policies\, please click here. \n

SUMMARY:Ramsey County Budget Hearing

The County Board hopes to change that\, and we want to voice our support. Join us for the hearing\, which will be both online and in person\, and for a virtual debrief to start whenever the hearing concludes! \nThe hearing begins  at 4:30 p.m. without a pre-determined end time. SUMMARY:Met Council Public Hearing - 8/16/21
DESCRIPTION:The development of supportive housing is impossible to build without rent subsidies like Project-Based Vouchers. \nThe Metro HRA is the largest administrator of the Housing Choice Voucher Program in the state of Minnesota\, and without a reliable\, annual process for obtaining project-based rent subsidies\, Beacon won’t be able to develop desperately needed supportive housing for families across the metro area. \nOn Monday August 16 at 4 p.m.\, the Met Council’s Community Development Committee will be hosting a public hearing where residents can tune in or share their testimony. \nFaith communities from across the collaborative are coming together at this digital hearing to demonstrate our support for this crucial community resource and why we need to have project-based vouchers on the table in 2022 and beyond. \nAn email with the link to watch the public hearing will be sent to you once it is made available by the Community Development Committee. We will also hold a short Zoom debrief immediately after the hearing. \nTo learn about our event accessibility and safety practices\, please click here. \n

SUMMARY:Minneapolis Housing Committee Meeting - 5/18/21
DESCRIPTION:The Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Tax Credit programs are two of the biggest sources of funding for the housing we build for residents who have faced many barriers to stable homes. These tools could be much more powerfully targeted to residents with the lowest incomes! Thanks to many who sent in public comments and attended meetings\, Council Members and the Mayor have pledged support\, yet staff are resisting changes. Show up to witness this meeting of the Business\, Inspections\, Housing and Zoning committee. Together we can hold Council Members accountable to their commitment! \nPlease register to receive updates below. \n

SUMMARY:Rent is Due: Day of Action - 5/3/21
DESCRIPTION:Our vision is that all people have a home. The pandemic and economic crisis are building into an eviction crisis\, which could add to the already too large number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness. We cannot let this happen\, and home is the solution. \nWe need Bring It Home\, MN\, a rent subsidy program that will allow all low-income Minnesotans the security and reassurance of home. \nOn Monday\, May 3\, join us at 8:30 a.m. for a thirty-minute update meeting\, where we will learn more about the growing crisis\, and reflect on how to take action together. \nPlease register below to let us know you will participate and to receive further instructions on how to access the meeting. \n

SUMMARY:Funding Home: Hennepin Commissioner Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Often the most important things are the most difficult. Funding homes for people at the lowest incomes is one of those very important things. And because what we do takes all kinds of funding\, it is also one of the most difficult. \nHennepin County is a primary funding source for creating homes for families. In May\, the county commissioners will vote on which homes get built\, for whom and when. \nDespite our many conversations with county commissioners\, roadblocks to funding homes (this year) like Emerson Village and Vista 44 remain. Few commitments have been made. And although the county says they share our priority to support those at the lowest income\, the funding allocated to homes for those families hasn’t actually been prioritized. \nBe part of one or all of the three meetings with county commissioners in April as we invite them to join us in prioritizing funding homes for those that struggle the most finding a safe\, stable place to live. \nThis event will feature West Hennepin congregations and leaders\, and District 6 Commissioner Chris LaTondresse and District 7 Commissioner Kevin Anderson. \nFunding Home terms to know

SUMMARY:Funding Home: A Conversation with Mayor Frey
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the City of Minneapolis invests millions every year in the Affordable Housing Trust Fund? This is one of the sources of capital that has helped our collaborative build housing like Bimosedaa and Lydia Apartments. But only 20% of the apartments funded in 2020 were affordable for people earning incomes below $30\,000 – and we think the City should commit to increasing that. Join the Emerson Village team leaders for a conversation with Mayor Frey about how the Trust Fund could better live up to its potential as a powerful tool to reduce homelessness. \n
