SUMMARY:Emerson Village: Mpls City Council Vote
DESCRIPTION:Emerson Village is at-risk of being passed over for critical funding from the Minneapolis Affordable Housing Trust Fund. \nThe Minneapolis Business\, Inspections\, Housing and Zoning Committee (BIHZ) did not recommend Emerson Village to the City Council for Affordable Housing Trust Fund dollars. Emerson Village has the fourth highest score in the competitive proposal process and has the highest number of homes restricted to people with the lowest incomes but it was passed over in favor of projects that scored lower and/or that have fewer homes restricted to people earning less than 30 percent of the area median income. \nEmerson Village deserves the award of AHTF funds. We’re calling on the Minneapolis City Council to amend the BIHZ recommendations to include funding for Emerson Village. The Council has said housing – especially housing for people with the lowest incomes – is a priority. \nPlease register for information on how to watch the Council meeting and for a Zoom link to debrief with the collaborative following the vote. We will want to report a strong contingent of supporters to councilmembers during the meeting!

A now looming eviction crisis will impact communities across the state\, unless our elected leaders act. \nJoin us as we take this first step and engage our local candidates for public office in this needed and urgent discussion. We will engage the candidates in a conversation to hear their vision for who will make decisions about who gets housed\, the crisis of homelessness\, and the long term solutions\, like Bring it Home\, MN\, Beacon’s rent subsidy campaign. \nFor this meeting we’re inviting candidates for Senate District 44 and House District 44 A/B\, in the area of Plymouth\, Minnetonka\, and Medina. House and Senate District 44 races are essential to many Beacon members who live in the district. The state legislature has a critical role to play in meeting the current challenge and working toward long term solutions.
