SUMMARY:Rent is Due: Day of Action - 10/1/20
DESCRIPTION:Please register below to join us\, and raise our voices together for the October 1\, Rent is Due: Day of Action. \nOur vision is that all people have a home. The pandemic and economic crisis are building into an eviction crisis\, which could add to the already too large number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness. We cannot let this happen\, and home is the solution. \nWe need Bring it Home\, MN\, a rent subsidy program that will allow all low-income Minnesotans the security and reassurance of home. \nOn Thursday\, October 1\, when rent is due\, join us at 8:30 a.m. for a thirty-minute update meeting\, where we will learn more about the growing crisis\, reflect together over instructions on how to take action together. \nPlease register below to let us know you will participate and to receive further instructions on how to access the meeting. \nWe are committed to holding a Rent is Due: Day of Action every month\, so please mark your calendars for the rest of the year. We plan on having this event the first of the month\, except when it lands on the weekend. Our next two dates will be Monday\, November 2 and Tuesday\, December 1. \nWe look forward to joining with you on October 1. \n

SUMMARY:Candidate Forum: Hennepin County Commissioners
DESCRIPTION:We believe in creating more equitable communities where all people have a home. This vision is in jeopardy as the pandemic and economic downturn are making our housing crisis much worse. A now looming eviction crisis will impact communities across the state\, unless our elected leaders act. \nJoin us as we take this first step and engage our local candidates for public office in this needed and urgent discussion. We will engage the candidates in a conversation to hear their vision for who will make decisions about who gets housed\, the crisis of homelessness\, and the long term solutions\, like Bring it Home\, MN\, Beacon’s rent subsidy campaign. \nFor this meeting we’re inviting commissioner candidates for districts 1\, 5\, 6 and 7 of Hennepin County. These commissioners would have tremendous power in determining both capital and service funding. Our conversation with them will focus on the state of local encampments\, prioritizing supportive housing for families\, and transparency in their decision-making process. \n**Please select “Attendee: Quantity 1” below to begin your registration**

SUMMARY:Beacon Now: Prairie Pointe
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re brand new to Beacon or have been a supporter for years\, we invite you to attend a virtual “Beacon Now” session. In this session\, we’ll touch on the basics of Beacon’s work\, go in depth on one aspect of that work\, and discuss how we can make a difference for our neighbors now. Encampments of neighbors without a home are again growing. Racial disparities in housing continue to harm communities of color. This session will cover the status of Prairie Pointe\, our family supportive housing development in Shakopee\, and the actions you can take to get these desperately needed homes built. \n

SUMMARY:Light the Way Home
DESCRIPTION:Working together\, we believe it’s possible for all people to have a home. If we join our voices and our resources\, we believe we have the power to see this happen in our lifetimes. Ensuring this future will require the investment of both public and private funds. \nIt takes nearly $4 million from our community each year to push our work forward. Thousands of people give what they can as a testament to their values. \nLight the Way Home is a series of virtual fundraising events where attendees are invited to give generously and introduce others to our vision. Light the Way Home offers an invitation for you to give generously or in any way that’s meaningful to you. \n**Please select “Attendee: Quantity 1” below to begin your registration:

SUMMARY:Power Tools: Leadership for Change Virtual Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Registration is currently closed for this event. If you would still like to attend the workshop\, please contact your congregational organizer\, or Deb Rodgers if you’re not sure who your organizer is. \nTo create the change needed to ensure all people have a home\, we need skilled leaders able to build meaningful relationships with decision makers\, hold power and act effectively in the public arena. This three-part virtual workshop focuses on how we understand and use power to address issues of homelessness; ways to act on individual and congregational interest; how to build powerful public relationships; tools to plan and act strategically; and how to participate in actions and campaigns that channel power and build the capacity of leaders\, congregations and the collaborative. \nThis workshop is composed of three virtual sessions:\n1. Sunday\, December 6 from 2 – 6 p.m.\n2. Monday\, December 7 from 4 – 8 p.m.\n3. Tuesday\, December 8 from 4 – 8 p.m. \nWe ask participants to share in the cost of this workshop and suggest $50 per person. Congregations may also wish to cover costs to invest in the leadership of their members. We don’t want cost to be a barrier for anyone to attend\, so please contact Deb Rodgers about a scholarship if needed. \nCore training for Beacon Leadership Team members\, key leaders\, clergy and faith leaders in Beacon congregations. We recommend six months’ experience with Beacon or with your congregation’s leadership team before attending this workshop.

SUMMARY:Emerson Village: Mpls City Council Vote
DESCRIPTION:Emerson Village is at-risk of being passed over for critical funding from the Minneapolis Affordable Housing Trust Fund. \nThe Minneapolis Business\, Inspections\, Housing and Zoning Committee (BIHZ) did not recommend Emerson Village to the City Council for Affordable Housing Trust Fund dollars. Emerson Village has the fourth highest score in the competitive proposal process and has the highest number of homes restricted to people with the lowest incomes but it was passed over in favor of projects that scored lower and/or that have fewer homes restricted to people earning less than 30 percent of the area median income. \nEmerson Village deserves the award of AHTF funds. We’re calling on the Minneapolis City Council to amend the BIHZ recommendations to include funding for Emerson Village. The Council has said housing – especially housing for people with the lowest incomes – is a priority. \nPlease register for information on how to watch the Council meeting and for a Zoom link to debrief with the collaborative following the vote. We will want to report a strong contingent of supporters to councilmembers during the meeting!
