SUMMARY:Beacon Academy: Unpacking Race & Housing
DESCRIPTION:As the collaborative continues its race equity journey we are increasingly aware of the importance to understand the history behind the disparities that exist in the ongoing housing crisis.  Unpacking Race and Housing provides an opportunity to ground ourselves in an understanding of the levels of racism\, the way race has been used to oppress communities of color and Indigenous communities and the impact of that today.  Unpacking Race and Housing is offered as a two-part series\, so participants have ample time for discussion and reflection. \nThis training consists of 2 virtual sessions:\n1. Tuesday\, January 26 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.\n2. Tuesday\, February 2 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. \nPlease attend both to experience the full training. \nRegistration is now CLOSED for this event\, but you can register the next occurrence of this series here.

SUMMARY:Beacon Now: Bring it Home\, Minnesota - 12/30/20
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re brand new to Beacon or have been a supporter for years\, we invite you to attend a virtual “Beacon Now” session. In this session\, we’ll touch on the basics of Beacon’s work\, go in depth on one aspect of that work\, and discuss how we can make a difference for our neighbors now. Encampments of neighbors without a home are again growing. Racial disparities in housing continue to harm communities of color. This session will cover Bring it Home\, Minnesota\, proposed legislation we believe would virtually end homelessness in the State\, and the actions you can take to make Bring it Home\, Minnesota a reality. \n

SUMMARY:Emerson Village: Mpls City Council Vote
DESCRIPTION:Emerson Village is at-risk of being passed over for critical funding from the Minneapolis Affordable Housing Trust Fund. \nThe Minneapolis Business\, Inspections\, Housing and Zoning Committee (BIHZ) did not recommend Emerson Village to the City Council for Affordable Housing Trust Fund dollars. Emerson Village has the fourth highest score in the competitive proposal process and has the highest number of homes restricted to people with the lowest incomes but it was passed over in favor of projects that scored lower and/or that have fewer homes restricted to people earning less than 30 percent of the area median income. \nEmerson Village deserves the award of AHTF funds. We’re calling on the Minneapolis City Council to amend the BIHZ recommendations to include funding for Emerson Village. The Council has said housing – especially housing for people with the lowest incomes – is a priority. \nPlease register for information on how to watch the Council meeting and for a Zoom link to debrief with the collaborative following the vote. We will want to report a strong contingent of supporters to councilmembers during the meeting!

SUMMARY:Power Tools: Leadership for Change Virtual Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Registration is currently closed for this event. If you would still like to attend the workshop\, please contact your congregational organizer\, or Deb Rodgers if you’re not sure who your organizer is. \nTo create the change needed to ensure all people have a home\, we need skilled leaders able to build meaningful relationships with decision makers\, hold power and act effectively in the public arena. Sunday\, December 6 from 2 – 6 p.m.\n2. Monday\, December 7 from 4 – 8 p.m.\n3. Tuesday\, December 8 from 4 – 8 p.m. \nWe ask participants to share in the cost of this workshop and suggest $50 per person.
