The Verdict is In

Dan Gregory April 21, 2021

The verdict is in: Our society does not value, protect, or support Black and Brown people and communities as much as white people and communities.

We continue to witness how deep our country’s disregard is for the body, mind, and spirit of Black and Brown people. The loved ones of Black and Brown people are forced to live without their parents, siblings, friends.

This didn’t happen just last year. We have witnessed how deeply our country disregards the body, mind and spirit of Black and Brown people. And, pushing against this disregard is a fact of survival for our residents, our peers, and our community members who are Black and Brown. No positioning of political alliances or use of laws can explain this away.

The faiths of the congregations in the Beacon collaborative affirm the inherent value of all people. We reject the status quo that devalues Black and Brown bodies, minds, and spirits. Racism and discrimination are violations of the human condition, and the systems which codify and perpetuate them are an affront to our deepest held values.

As a white collaborative, we acknowledge our responsibility for dismantling the status quo. We commit to learning from, to listening to, and to being directed by those who historically and daily are on the receiving end of racism. We will deepen our understanding of how racism has pervaded and poisoned our systems. We will learn to use our privilege as a white organization strategically so that all Black and Brown people have a home.
