Safety and Accessibility at Beacon Events

Dan Gregory July 29, 2021

While many of Beacon’s events will continue to be held virtually, Beacon is cautiously returning to in-person gathering in the form of hybrid events. During the pandemic, we’ve learned that virtual gathering is an important tool for accessibility and safety. For this reason, any events that do have in-person elements will always have the option to participate online. The frequency of in-person gathering will depend on the capacity and comfort of sufficient Beacon staff, but all Beacon staff in attendance will be fully vaccinated. We will also be working with any venue staff to ensure that we keep them safe by adhering to their business rules and comfort levels.

Our Standards

Any in-person Beacon events will take place outside or be amply spaced, with a maximum room capacity of 75%. Masks will be provided and encouraged at all events, especially for unvaccinated folks. We also encourage all in-person attendees to be vaccinated. These measures may change depending on the requirements of the venue.

All events will have a virtual option with closed captioning available and image descriptions for any visual elements. After registering for an event with in-person elements, your registration confirmation email will include venue-specific safety and accessibility information. The most common accessibility information we will share is listed below:

  • layout of event and approximate spacing
  • location of extra masks, hand-washing and sanitizer on site
  • food and beverage information
  • known ventilation/filtration or lack thereof
  • wheelchair accessibility, including the locations of ramps/elevators and seating options
  • information about how venue and guests care and keep event staff safe, if applicable
  • bathroom accessibility and gender options
  • available parking including accessible parking spots
  • public transportation options close to the venue
  • any childcare options, lactation space, prayer space, space for sensory needs, or lack thereof

If the venue is still being decided on when the registration form is posted, we will share accessibility and safety information with you by email before the event.

Lastly, all events are subject to live-stream and/or recording. If you have registered for an event and want to opt-out of image capture, please read your registration confirmation email to contact event staff.

For Specific Access Needs

If you have any specific access needs, our Events Coordinator, El Horsfall, is happy to work with you. There will be a place to type your access needs in upon registering for an event. If you have further questions or want to speak to someone, please contact El by email at ehorsfall@beaconinterfaith.org. If it is easier to contact them by phone, please call their office number and leave a message at (651) 789-6260 ext. 223.
