How supportive housing at Cranberry Ridge helped unite Sasha’s family

As a mother of four, Sasha dedicated herself to giving her kids the best life possible. However, achieving this goal became complicated when her family found themselves separated and without a permanent home.

Despite the challenges she faced, Sasha found stable housing at Cranberry Ridge and—in the process—brought her family back together again.

Support Bimosedaa residents and their new homes

What’s the impact of supportive housing at Bimosedaa? In his interview with the Sahan Journal, Joseph Maxwell, one of Bimosedaa’s earliest residents, reported, “Here, I fall right into a deep sleep. For the first week I was here, I didn’t hear anything. I caught up on all my sleep just from not being alerted.”

For Joseph, Bimosedaa offers a refuge from the anxiety of homelessness and the chance to cultivate the best version of himself thanks to Avivo’s culturally responsive onsite services.

Supportive homes and services like the ones at Bimosedaa are essential in providing the resources that community members who have experienced homelessness need to find stability and health. Beacon is proud to work with our partners to provide these essential homes, but we need your help.

Operating Bimosedaa in the face of current community needs will take all of us stepping into this work together. Please give as generously as possible today to support the homes, services, and residents at Bimosedaa. Your gift allows individuals like Joseph to experience safety, healing, and a brighter future.

Congregations, corporations, or foundations interested in doubling the impact of their gift can contact Lisa Zellmer at lzellmer@beaconinterfaith.org.

Exploring civil rights history at Kimball Court

What comes to mind when you think of the civil rights movement in the US?

It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll think of Beacon; however, one of our buildings—Kimball Court—was the site of an important piece of civil rights history.

Learn how this building, formerly known as the Hamline Hotel, played a pivotal role in civil rights leader Bayard Rustin’s 1947 sit-in by visiting the Beacon blog

Featured Event: Beacon 101

Help Beacon build our community of support by inviting your connections to Beacon 101!

This program is ideal for newcomers to Beacon’s work. Participants will discover how Beacon went from a single building to a leading housing non-profit that serves over 1,100 residents across 20 buildings. They’ll also learn how Beacon community members work together toward the vision that all people have a home.

During this short virtual program, participants will deepen their understanding of the housing crisis in Minnesota so they can have more meaningful and persuasive discussions around housing issues. They’ll also find out how to join Beacon’s community of housing champions.
