Kimball Court Expansion Complete
One of Beacon’s in-progress renovation and expansion projects, Kimball Court, is nearing completion, offering new and improved apartments, community spaces, and more accessible services to residents. Beacon has owned Kimball Court since 2010, and in 2025 initiated a major renovation and expansion plan to improve both the existing building and expand to offer 22 additional apartments, totaling 98 units on site.
Today, the new expansion is complete, and 22 new units will soon be occupied by individuals ready to benefit from supportive housing. Renovation of the historic side of the building is set to finish in October 2026. The rejuvenated and modernized building addresses much-needed improvements to both individual apartments and community spaces, intended to enrich the resident experience and community safety.
New additions include:
- Improved and intentionally designed spaces for service partner Avivo to provide residents with individualized, trauma-informed case management and support.
- Robust security improvements and a new operational base for 24/7 on-site security from Relative Intel, including a planned total of 60 cameras inside and outside the building improving both resident and community safety.
- Common areas that are designed with dignity, community, and stability in mind as residents work to achieve their goals.
We also work closely with key community partners like the City of Saint Paul (Homeless Assistance Response Team, the Mayor’s Office, Familiar Faces and City Council members), the Saint Paul Police Department, the Hamline-Midway Coalition Development Committee, and neighbors to take a collaborative approach in providing supportive housing amidst complex community needs, developments, and a difficult housing environment.
The original building was constructed in 1926, as the Hamline Hotel. You can learn more about Kimball Court’s history here. Reimagining a historic building in St. Paul is only part of the story—Beacon’s model of supportive housing ensures that everyone who lives at Kimball Court is given the chance to develop the stability and safety in a building they can call home.
