Loving our neighbors is the highest law: Beacon statement on federal actions in Minnesota

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative January 27, 2026

Beacon exists to ensure every one of our neighbors can belong, thrive, and have a safe place to call home—and we affirm that every human life is sacred. America’s immigrant and refugee communities are our beloved neighbors. Alex Pretti and Renee Good were our beloved neighbors.

Our hearts are heavy for all who have been harmed and who are carrying grief, fear, sadness, and anger resulting from federal actions here in Minnesota and nationwide. When this kind of harm and fear touches our communities, it shakes the sense of safety, belonging, and home that every person deserves.

Yet here in Minnesota we have also seen something powerful: ordinary people showing extraordinary care, standing alongside one another, practicing mutual aid, and refusing to let fear and harm have the final word. This is hard and holy work. The road ahead will require all of us.

Beacon will continue living our values by creating and sustaining homes as places of safety, healing, and dignity—especially for neighbors overcoming homelessness. We remain committed to a Minnesota where care is stronger than fear, and where loving our neighbors is the highest law.
