2020 Fiscal Year Wrap Up
Written by Clara Lind, Donor Experience Manager
As Beacon’s fiscal year comes to a close, we are taking this opportunity to reflect on a year that has been historic in many ways. The past few months have created a turbulent environment of isolation and outrage, but we have also been witnessing incredible acts of community.
This emphasis on community has pulled open the curtains on the inequities that exist between neighbors, but it has also forced us all to grapple with our values and fight for our beliefs.
Throughout this past year, Beacon has seen and heard the community call for stable, affordable housing for all more than ever. The urgency we feel had led to a record-breaking year for us, with more of you getting involved than ever!
This year, Beacon has raised $3.6 million thanks to over 2,000 of you standing up for home with your gift. So many of you have stood up with your voice, too.
While this year has been filled with uncertainty, Beacon is able to end the year on stable footing, and this year has proved that we need to be here for our neighbors more than ever.
James, who found stable housing at Beacon’s American House after experiencing homelessness 18 months ago. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, James was laid off from his job, and the uncertainty of his future exacerbated his mental health issues.
For James, the paperwork that came along with applying for his stimulus check and unemployment was daunting, and he needed to lean on support staff in building. Staffing supportive services like the ones that James received cost $1,000 each month, and we know that the need for these services is rising. We have faith that our community will continue to step up to support James and his neighbors in need of support and a stable home.
We’ve set the ambitious goal of raising $3.9 million next year, which will set our new pace for creating homes, advancing policy, and support people currently living in Beacon homes. This goal, as a part of our Connected by Home campaign, will allow Beacon to double our production of affordable housing to move new projects like Prairie Pointe forward.
It’s more important than ever to stand up for equitable and supportive housing, and we know that you are the key to making this happen. We have ambitious goals, but we are confident that we can do this together.
From all of us at Beacon, thank you for believing in home. Click here to learn how you can support the vision that all people have a home.
